Newbie needs help with 94 toyota 4x4!

I own a 94 Toyota 4x4 22re. The truck set for almost 5yrs. In 2007 I changed the engine out and my father drove it 300 miles fine. I got the truck home and realised the fuel tank still had fuel from 5yrs. back needless to say I had to replace the fuel tank. I didn't have the money to replace it right away so the truck set another 2 yrs. I now have a new fuel tank in the truck. I tried to crank it but will not stay cranked unless the gas pedal is pressed and even then seems to run rough. I am in the process of changing out the fuel filter. I was wondering if anyone had any sugestions on what to test for or what the problem may be.

Welcome to Yotatech. The injectors could be dirty, the 02 sensor could be bad, spark plugs, trottle positioning sensor, air flow sensor. I would run some SEAFOAM through it if it sat up that long Put some in the fuel, some in the oil, and suck some into the intake with one of your vacuum hoses.

The old fuel wasn't just in your fuel tank, it's still in your entire fuel system. After a couple of years gas will start to gum up, clog all your lines, and then it becomes varnish.

I wouldn't bother with any sensors yet, or anything not directly related to the fuel system. I would venture to say your injectors, fuel rail, filter, and all fuel lines are full of varnish. Hindsight is 20/20, but you should've put some fuel stabilizer in the tank and ran it for 10 minutes to get it through the entire system before you let it sit for so long.

Thanks for all the help!! I plan on changing the fuel filter and adding some seafoam in the gas, oil, and intake as toyotabull suggested. I agree with you guys that the fuel system is totally clogged, should have seen the fuel tank I removed!

might as well show a pic of it then, and might want to keep an extra fuel filter just in case you have alot of gunk in the lines.
