Newb 4Runner questions

I'm a long time Land Cruiser 80 series owner, and just bought a 2002 4Runner Ltd for my wife. It has 62k on the clock, auto, V6 (3.4ltr?) (haven't looked that close). The car drives and handles well, as far as I can tell. It is no 80, but she really likes it.

I just picked it up yesterday, and am looking for a few opinions and impressions from those of you who have owned one of these.

What kind of mileage should I expect?

What kind of oil do you recomend?

Any service due at 60k? It should have been done, but who really knows?

I see a bit of oil seepage on the left bank (USDS). Any ideas? Valve cover gasket maybe?

Any trouble spots to look for?

Thanks.

I get between 15 and 20mpg

I run mobil synthetic.

I would change the plugs and wires at 60k, check all the oils. At 90 you want to get a new T-belt and waterpump

Mobil 1 oil seems to be the popular choice, oversized Napa/Wix/Mobil 1 oil filter. And I'm pretty sure 60K was the timing belt scheduled maintenance, I know mine was done at 60K, along with my dad's 01 Taco, and uncles 02 Taco, all with the 3.4L.

And I agree w/ the 15-20 MPG, depends on how hard I drive her.

Oil seepage, can't help you on that. I don't have any problems with mine, and she's got 90K. But, I'm newer here than others, so keep that in mind too.

And who would choose an 80 series over the 3rd Gen 4Runner? Craziness I tell you...

Nathan,

We didn't choose one over the other, although, I would choose the 80 every time, just based on size and drivability. My wife chose the 4Runner. I wanted to get her a 100 series LC, but maybe next time.
