New Member, VIN info doesn't match the 'net
Hey all,
I recently got a 88 chassis cab dually. I think it was made that way, but not sure if maybe someone converted it at some point. My chassis tag says RN55L-SRTEA3W and the line under is G292A43D. the tag on the inside was either never filled out or just faded over the years.
I am trying to compare online, so far I think I got the RN55 means 112" wheelbase, but the SRTEA3W part doesn't match what I read online. It's an 22RE auto. I got a have a G292 axle (4.1 ratio) and an A43D trans. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the STREA3W part?
Runs rough right now, rough idle, surges, dies when idling at times, smells rich. I need to do some tinkering. was told motor and trans was swapped at some point. I got some experience in old international harvester trucks (mainly carbs), and some old EFI (years ago had a MK2 supra). Already ordered an FSM and wiring manual. The frame and cab are rust free and it's got the true 6 x dually wheels full float axle, instead of the 5lug front dually rear or semi float rear which I've been seeing. I couldn't find out if that was just a hub difference of if there were brake/torsion bar differences between the 5 lug front and dually wheel 6 lug fronts. also I wasn't sure if the frames are different between say the 1/2 ton and 1 ton, or if it was just suspension/brakes/etc.
I don't have a tag for GVWR - but I saw on the 1988 spec sheet that it was 5500lbs for all cab chassis and 1 ton models - can anyone confirm?

Sorry, i just saw this post. i don't usually come to Newbie forum.
Amayama and EPC-data.com list that model number RN55L-SRTEA3W
The decal from the company that did the bed conversion won't be of much use, at least for the Toyota side of things. Just as well it's blank.
The rear axle/brakes are beefier than the 1/2 ton trucks, larger shoes and wheel cylinders. The rear axles are thicker, with an inner/outer bearing setup as opposed to the single bearing the other trucks used.. The oem rear axle housing assembly is the same one the motorhome companies had to install during their recall. So most of the differences will be in brakes and suspension. The engine itself is the same
You should get very familiar looking up your own parts on EPC-data or Amayama. Even if you don't order from them you'll start seeing where the differences are, and ask better questions when trying to locate and order parts.
