New Member with CB install questions

I'm a new member and trying to get some posts listed. Can anyone tell me about my Midland 1001Z? I installed it in my truck and it works nicely. However, when it turns on it defaults to channel 9. The nor/ch9 switch is on nor. When I change to another channel, the CB stays on that channel until I turn it off. When I turn it on again it defaults back to channel 9. Is this changeable or is there something wrong. I like the unit but don't like that feature.
Thanks, Framemaker

Thanks 4crawler, I sent them an email and tried to call but they don't have a weekend tech support, so guess I'll call tomorrow if no luck today.

is the power lead hooked to a constant 12v source ? if it is a keyed power source the cb may be losing the pre set. stereos have a separate wire , but i think some cb radios draw off the same wire.

Midland CB

There is only red and black. The red is connected to a line that is hot when the ignition is on only. I think what you're talking about is a third wire for memory? I just turned on the ignition and turned the CB on and off. It retained the channel. I guess it's designed to be turned on and off by hand when not in use. You would think they would set it up for a third wire??
Oh well, Thanks, Framemaker

it's not good on the cb components inside just to switch off the power wire to it. I don't see why they would build one with a remote turn on.

try hooking it to 12v source that is not affected by the key.

Not sure what you mean by a remote turn on? If it's connected to the ignition it's going to turn the power source off when the key is off.

just like a stereo, it has a remote turn on and a constant 12v source. A cb does not have that, and it's not good to turn it off with a switched power source if the radio is still turned on. Someone had mentioned they should make a 3 wire hookup for the power source on cb's like stereos do, but it's not possible because you would be effectively doing the same thing as how a stereo works. Basically tuning it off with the knob still on on the cb radio.

I have mine wired directly to the battery through a fuseable link that i use for my off road lights and air horn. so i can turn it on and off weather the key is on or off. and it does not lose the channel.

OK, I get it. I'll have to change the hot lead to a direct line to the battery. I didn't want to do that as I don't drive the truck alot because it's more of a tow vehicle. I was concerned about draining the battery. I'll just make sure the CB is turned off when not in use. I'm surprised that it doesn't tell you in the manual to connect to a constant hot.
Thanks for all the help, Framemaker

yeah and the cb will be able to pull a little more power to transmit as well. I also have mine wired directly to battery. But you don't have to do this, it doesn't need a constant power, just need to make sure you turn it off at the cb and not with just the key. Off hand I don't know of any cb's that require constant power, but there may be. But your I highly doubt it.

a safer way to do this is to wire a relay directly to battery that is controlled by the switched wire that you are using now. a 30A relay should do just fine, just make sure the wire to battery is also fused off.

LOL!! I don't understand what you just said. I know electricity but not quite sure what a relay switch is or does. My biggest dislike of this whole thing is that we usually use the same channel with my friends and would like to have it set there. I'll just remember to turn off the CB. I did talk to Midland this morning and wasn't impressed with there tech person, but she did say it wouldn't hurt the unit to stay on for periods of time. I guess for $28.00 you can't complain.
Thanks for all your suggestions, Framemaker
