need to tighten steering

Well, I just got back with my new to me 87 toyota crew cab pickup. It was a 10 hour trip back and the first thing I want to do to it is tighten the steering. How should I go about this? What are the usual issues? It drives straight and handles well, but there is just to much slop in the wheel for my liking.
Also is there any way to improve the turning radius? Since it is longer than the normal Yota it would be nice to help it turn sharper. I had to make some u-turns on some dirt roads and it made it kind of tuff.

Idler arm bushing first, then check all your tie rod ends. Also, you can dial in a little more negative camber into the alignment too, but try the first two ideas first.

You need to find what's worn.
Most certainly, there are worn components in the front end.
