Ok: lets just say i know nothing about nothing so that way i can understand everything. please explain everything in detail. 17 year old doesn't know crap about any of this stuff

Help: Need ideas for around a 3" lift on my 2000 Tacoma and if i would need to increase my tire size... Also, i was wondering if anyone had subs in their tacoma and if so, what size and brand and all that stuff.

I hate to be one of those people that says "search" but really that'd do you a world of good. Spend a couple weeks reading up on your model of truck & lifts; look up anything you don't understand & read up on THAT part of it even more. Once you get familiarized with what you are wanting to know the info you get here will be easier to grasp.

dont jump on telling this guy to search this is the newbie area and everyone gets excited when they first get a yota...

first off how do you use your truck..you might not need any lift....

you have a very nice truck.
a body lift is cheaper and lift just the body it is used to be able to fit bigger tires. a suspension lift gives you a few more inchs suspension travel and does allow bigger tires... but is more costly... a bigger tire can be better offroad. what size tire do you have??? a all terrrain tire is good offroad but a mud terrian is best but isnt that good if you see snow....

do you have room for subs?? can you put a box where your back seats are or do you take passengers??

i also have kickers and they make my brain hurt

Alright, so i just want to use my truck for some mild to moderate grade trails around my house...it is colorado so i was thinking the lift would help for snow too.

Should i buy 1 or 2 subs for my truck?? i don't use the rear seat for passengers so i figured i would put it/them there

Yes Sir! *Salute*

I didn't jump on him/her or tell him to just "search". I suggested they would learn more from an extended read on the subject so when they asked here they'd get more out of the information provided, learn to comprehend what you read before stepping up to the plate.

I say put 4 15" Phoenix Gold X max Subs with 4 1000 watt amps (for the subs), 6 mids, 4 tweets and another amp for your mids and tweets and don't forget crossovers. It will throw your wind sheild on your hood and possibly make you go into cardiac arrest but it will sound awsome.........Trust me on this one!

It's out there. The answers you get here won't make any more sense to you. My advice is to look up info on your specific model & lifts; suspension lifts & body lifts...if you don't know the difference; investigate deeper. I promise you in a week or two you'll have much more specific questions & the information you get at that point will make much more sense & will lead you to even more questions & answers.

If you just ask general questions here you'll get bozos telling you "use this" or "put this in your truck it rawks"...then after about a month or two you'll sit back one day with more general knowledge & think "crap, I shoulda went this direction...if I had only realized this wouldn't meet my needs & I really would've been better off with that I could've saved myself some money"

It's not a bad thing to ask here, it's information to add into your overall knowledge; just don't take any single persons opinion as gospel & go drop a couple grand on stuff you really didn't want or need. Search, read, search, read & if you have a specific question you'll be better armed to understand the answer when you get it......Understand what I'm trying to get at?

For example, the above poster, commander "don't tell him to search" didn't bother to mention the down side of suspension lifts, or how larger tires might require a re-gear etc. etc. Knowledge is power, arm yourself!

Here's a suggestion; put the type of vehicle your working with in your signature line, year, engine, transmission etc. Then the folks around here can glance at that & have a better idea of where to guide you.

I have to ask; what is the reason you want the lift? To put on bigger tires? Just for looks? I saw where you were asking about traction assistance in your two wheel drive; if the lift is to help off-road then it'll be used to stuff bigger tires under the truck because bigger tires = more ground clearance & that's all it's good for. A body lift will be easier in the long run since it won't lend to the wear on steering & suspension components.

I personally wouldn't bother with a lift yet if I were you. I'd go ahead & concentrate on my stereo for the moment. If you're dead set on going off-road in your two wheel drive, then look into a cheap lunchbox locker like an Aussie locker or a Lockrite locker. Those are much more affordable & easier to install. If you like the performance & you find you need more clearance to go further down the trails, look into a lift so you can get bigger tires....but at that point you'll want to have recovery equipment too & wheel with a buddy.

As far as sounds all I can suggest is to buy some aftermarket speakers, a 4channel amp, and a bazooka sub (they are round like a bazooka, and can fit in the back very well).

As far as lift, I think you have leafs in the back, and you can just get bigger ones...

Welcome man

You should hook up with some of us CO guys for a run. Although, doing so will probably make you want to buy more crap for your truck, so fair warning!

That's a good idea; then you can see what is being talked about & how it works in practice. Much easier to understand when you can see it & touch it.
