Exclamation Need Help on choosing muffler!

After researching for several hours, I have narrowed down the choices for a new muffler for my 96 3.4L 4runner. By personal opinion I have ruled out Flowmaster and several others and it is down to MagnaFlow or Vortex.

I don't want anything obnoxiously loud but I want you to be able to know I got something in there. I was looking at the Magnaflow 18" if I were to go that route. I have heard a lot of good things about Vortex from Jason B. and other 4runner owners. Please share your input with me on this topic.

Magnaflow 21". Not much louder than stock at idle but definitely a peppy rumble during throttle.

I remember that Vortex people talking about their trucks sounding like they had V8's in them. That would be too loud for my truck.

Thanks for responding. I'm new to this stuff and trying to work out all the kinks with posting a thread. Still haven't figured out how to get the pictures on yet. Are you running the 21"?

I'm starting to lean towards the 18" Magnaflow. I've been listening to some clips and other peoples opinions and I think i'm sold.

welcome to YT!

ive known two people now who went w the 18" MF and then sold it for the 24". why? because 18" was too drony and loud on the highway. 24" is a teeny bit louder than stock, but still throaty at startup and on the streets.

ask both tdiddy and localmotion about their experience.

oh yeah, moved to newb land

Thanks Bob. Maybe I have the 24" muffler. All I know is it's not the 18" and I like it.

I'm going to go with the 18" magnaflow, going in Friday to have them look at what we're going to do. I might hate myself and wish i got the 24"

Question Flowmaster Muffler?

Which Flowmaster Muffler would you run with a 96 3.4L 4runner?

The "50 Series SUV" is a popular one with both 2nd gen and 3rd gen guys. If you search "Flowmaster" you'll probably come up with some threads discussing the ins & outs of different kinds of mufflers and their sound.

Where exactly did you read that Flowmaster's are "bad"? Or was it just some opinions with no actual facts
