Mystery wire coupling (pics)
Ive had my 91 runner for about a month now and just noticed these wires that were tucked up under the grill. The tips show some oxidation(burning?)maybe. I pulled them out so they would be more visible. The truck was bought new in Germany then shipped over. Any ideas?

You'll be fine leaving it. Usually there is a heating element that is put in place of one of the freeze plugs on the block. Keeps the coolant and oil at a warmer temp so that the vehicle can start. More common on diesels than gas engines. It won't hurt anything to leave it there.

I followed it into another bundle of wires that was covered by a protective plastic making it difficult to discern the origin. I was worried because the tips of the wires looked burnt/really corroded and diddnt want some hot wires flopping around near my engine. I'lll try to post some more pics.

OK well if the wires did not connect to a cord which then went to your engine block then I am skeptical on it being a block heater based on all the block heaters I have seen. I cant tell by the images but are the ends of the wires a connection (male or female?) or are they just exposed wire with tape over it?

I have the EXACT same wires hanging out the front of my 4Runner.
They look too "light duty" to be for a block heater IMO. No signs of missing fog lights, plus theres only one set. I would imagine if this wire were for fog lights there would be a pair.
I traced them back as well and they disappear into a bundle of wire and I lose them. They appear to me to be factory.
Any ideas?

UPDATE: Just got a call from the dealer. They think That the wires were supposed to go to some sort of resistor for the fan. They didnt have the parts to "fix" the problem and would have to order it.Quoted me $175 to "fix".

should have answer by the end of the day, maybe
