My timing was off

i have a 1990 toyota pickup and one morning i went outside to start it and thats when the fun began..it cranked up fine but had no power AT ALL..when i rev up the engine it takes forever to get up in rpms, HERE IS THE WEIRD PART if i retard the hell out of the timing it runs fine without a problem

Things i have done so far;

1. replaced timing gears, guides, sprockets and tensioner

2. replaced distributor, wires and plugs

3. ignition coil

4. replaced tps

5. replaced fuel filter and pump

Added: friend told me over the phone it might be off a tooth on one of the sprockets..i kinda find that hard to believe since it is doing the same thing after i did a whole timing job on the truck..possibility though..any ideas?

well not sure what you mean but this is the third one i installed on that truck and it still has the same ole problem..when i advance it to five degrees is when it runs like crap...not sure about 90..lol...i had to remove the whole thing so i could retard the timing enough so that it would run better..cant run it long like this otherwise it will burn up valves and plugs

Solved==== off a tooth or two maybe three...

Lesson learned===when putting on timing chain always go clockwise when aligning notches never go counter clockwise

I gave up on it..i thought it was all off but in fact it wasnt..i totally redid the whole job only to find out it has the same problem..im totally out of ideas, so what i did was just did the timing by ear and not by the cheap china made timing light i got on ebay and so far it is running like a champ..its too old to worry about the valves burning up or a catostrophic break down. So ill just ride till it fries...and hopefully ill get another 300k miles out of it
