mix and match yotas
howdy-
new to the forum and yotas in general, but i seem to be quickly amassing a little collection of trucks! got a '92 ext cab 2wd manual with a knocking motor (spun bearing?) as part of a trade, and my buddy wants his '84 4x4 manual with rusted frame out of his yard for $200. ive been looking for a late '80s-early '90s 4x4 and found a '86 on craigslist thats just what im looking for with a rebuilt motor but a bad manual tranny that i can probably pick up for $1000 or less. i was wondering if i could take the good tranny from the '84 and put it in the '86, or did the transmissions change when they went from solid front to independent? the '84 has a good motor too, might try and put it in the '92 so it could be sold as a working truck. do i need to know some more specifics on which transmission is in which? maybe i should just look for a frame or reinforce the one on the '84? maybe i should just rebuild the '92?
