Howdy Y'all, potential '85 4x4 owner here.

I have found a fellow selling a '85 4x4 long bed (not sure of engine type)

I am going to see it tomorrow afternoon.

Heres what I know about it:

asking $600
has been sitting 4 years (presumably outside)
ran when parked but would melt the electrode on the #3 spark plug in approximately 3,000 miles when he last drove it.
rebuilt manual tranny (New pressure plate, pilot bearing, etc. also new gears)
200,000+ miles
Some rust on bed.
seller says "always planned to fix it but have to move for a job and can't take it with me"

My Questions:
1 What would cause the electrode on the #3 spark plug to melt?
2 Any guess on the cost to fix?
3 I plan to take my junper cables and compression gage to check it out. Is there any 22R or 22RE specific items I need to look out for?
4 It seems to be a real good price. Do you agree based on the description above?

Sounds like a good price even if not running if it has EFI. Make sure it has a solid front axle. I see alot of people that advertise 86's as 85's to get people to look at them.

 

yes, seller mentioned specifically "solid front axle"

 

A burnt valve would cause plug damage...may burn the piton next. Use that as a bargaining tool on purchase price.
