hello all I am new to this asking questions thing on here I normally can just search what I am looking to do and find tons of infotion on my topic of choice. And I know they're are a million people on this topic but I can't find what I am looking for.....

so we are talking about oil psi in the motor the oil psi gauge in the cab never gets past half and at idle it drops low... like low enough I kinda start to worrie and I tap the throttle and I get it to come back up no problem... super quick responce

i have played arround with the breather idea on the front vacuum line on the valve cover and had no change....

the he motor has ben rebuilt and has a fresh head gasket with a new head. It also has a aftermarket cam.... that I am not all that fond of the motor doesn't get into it's (power band) till about 2400 rpm... I know that can have a affect on vacuum.... but I am still new to this working on motors thing... I know just enough to get me in trouble lol...

my question is where could I be loosing oil psi?
is it that camshaft?

Sounds like your factory oil pressure gauge works and reads just like thousands of others do. My 22re and 3vz trucks act the same.

If you want to find out what your instrument readings really mean, you'll need to pipe in a mechanical pressure gauge, at least temporarily.

I would'nt worry.

 

I have hurd the same thing from lots of people but it's a new thing ... I let the truck sit for about a year and I k
noticed the change in oil psi.... that's what has me concerned

Ya it was sitting in the side yard started about every month to keep the oil in the bearings and what not.... so if I get a manual gauge and mount it I think I have one on the shelf what should the oil psi run at

 

These engines are different then most Domestic engines

Idle oil pressure can be a low of 4.5 psi

As the rpm increases so does the oil pressure at 3000 rpm pressure can be between 35 to 70 psi

I have mechanical gauges in all my Vehicles I like having the peace of mind

The factory gauge is ok but age takes a toll on the sending units

wires get knocked off

connections get corroded
