Here is a list of my mods.
35" tires (4) $950
Rims (4) $700
Regear 4.88 with lock-rite in rear $950
Chaos Arms $600
Longer swaybar links $50
Donahoe Coilovers $800
Rear Downey springs $150
Sonoran Trac-bar $100
Roger Brown Body lift 2" $170
Sliders $250
ARB Front Bumper $850
Rear Sonoran Bumper $500 (used, bought off member here. Expect to pay around $1000.
T-max winch 9,000lb $650
IPF extreme off-road lights $200
Tranny cooler $50
Poly rack & pinion bushings $30
Front windows tinted $60
Bushwacker flares $300
Extreme catch-all floormats $150 for all including rear cargo.
Thats $7510 dollars in mine total over the last two years. I bought it for $9000 cash. How much do you think I could sell it for? I would hope for around $10-$ 11,000. Point being that these trucks in particular are not cheap to lift and modify (do it right the first time). Don't get me wrong there are alot of cheaper ways to do things,if I was 16 and jus had to lift it I would stick to a 33" tall tire and and one of the spacer lifts on the market.
Good luck in whatever you choose to do. Now I need to get off this thread so my wife doesnt see how much I have put into the runner

Ah.
Buddy is running those gears on his 2nd gen, 3.4, auto, on 37's, and his is a little sluggish. He does have duals and a heavy set of axles under it, but still, figured those gears would be close to stockish with the 35's.
But, I'll not argue with experience, and retract my previous statement, and say 4.88.

4Runnin2... DAMB! You really put a lot into that beast lol. I was thinkin about
$850 (4) Pro Comp Extreme MT
$250 (4) Rock Crawler Steelies
$600 In gears. either 4.56 or 4.88
$170 2" RB Body Lift
$1200 for the 1.2 SS System
$160 Sliders from WabFab
Roughly 800$ for front bumper
Roughly 800$ for rear bumper
$60 Tranny Cooler
---- $4900 -----
Will you send me some picts of your 4Runner?! Please! Its looks hella nice. Might help with some ideas.
What else will I need? Differential Drops, Radiator drops??
So 4.88's are the best for offroad and street?? Whats your gas mileage like???? 12mpg?
Whats the deal with A-Arms? I talked with people that just did the lift and tires. with stock bumpers. and it was the 97sr5. Sooo, why do i need them??
Any more suggestions of what i need too??

The stock a-arms rub with 35's. As in , tire rubs on the a-arm.
However, judging from the parts list, this looks like it will be a DD, 99% street truck, with some light duty wheeling. Could be wrong, but I see no lockers or belly armor. If thats the case, you may be okay. The guys who have the shaved arms are running more difficult stuff.
However, I do notice that 4runnin2 has the Chaos upper arms, so he should be able to tell you why he needs em.

Yah its gonna be pretty much a Daily Driver. But I need it lifted n stuff so i can go wherever. like for hunting and stuff. a stock one wouldn't make it. It will be like a 90% street and 10% in the dunes and mud
Thanks for the suggestions

Have you seen what these trucks can do stock with good tires?
Lift has THE lowest return on cost for increase in capability of ANY mod. You want to go further? Get lockers.
#29
I highly doubt a completely stock 4Runner could get to some of the places I go. My Dads Duramax has 35's and a 6" lift, and he can clear the stuff, but not easily. No way a stock Runner could do it.
I know, not JUST a lift. Calm down freebird. The whole shabang. Obviously lifting and bigger tires would help, otherwise everyone would leave them stock.

TC's truck will.
It has zero lift, and 33's. The only thing that stops his truck is him, when he aborts obstacles to avoid body damage. And, since I can't go very long with out poking fun at him, he's not always very good at that.
To put it another way, I've wheeled with TC. I've watched a truck with a SAS, (6+" of lift) AND a rear locker on 35's NOT make an obstacle on the trail. On the SAME obstacle, TC's rig drove the SAME LINE without so much as slipping a tire.
You gotta understand where this is coming from. No one is trying to make you feel bad or like your truck isn't cool, or whatever. Its just we've all been there. Lifts and tires are really just for show until you get into the REALLY big rocks. Until then, stock suspension is fine.
Now, Back to the Original Topic. You seem set on 35's. I am wondering if you've looked at a 285 tire, or even a 305. Not going to require the same amount of modification, and only a little smaller. They will look rugged, and performance wise, you'll be much better off.

285 are 33's right? Whats a 305?... Ill search it...
285= Oh, 31s
305= And these are the 33s.
Yah i've thought about it. Just a 3" Suspension and like a 1" body lift (if that), but I wanna go BIG. Mines not gonna be a street queen, but its not gonna be a total off roader.
Im not sure...

Nope.
285's are a 33 man. Check your math...
A common 285 size is 285/75-16.
We'll work this out the long ways. 285 refers to the width of the tire, in mm. the 75 is the percent of the width that the sidewall is, so, in this case, the side wall is 75% of the width of the tire.
So, we'll do the ol math. 285/25.4= 11.22 inches. That is just getting the measurement of the width of the tire into inches.
then we'll multiply 11.22 by 0.75 to get the height of the side wall. 11.22x0.75 = 8.4 inches.
Now, because, for the purposes of the overall diameter of the tire, you count the sidewall twice, we'll multiply by 2 and add in the diameter of the rim.
So, 8.4x2= 16.8, plus 16 = 32.8.
I think you'll find that most 33's are almost exactly the same size.
A 305 is going to be fatter, and a little taller, if its a 305/75.

Damb, I couldn't find it lol. But I didnt search that hard. I know 315s are 35s. So I just went down from there lol.
It would just be like a couple inches difference huh. From 35s to 33s. And from a 6" lift to like 4" lift. So 4Inches.
Would I still have the same flex basically? For a lift I heard a 3" Toytec lift and a 1" 4Crawler Body Lift would run me $500. But is that anygood?
Would I still need a locker or gears? Like what, 456s?

First - offroad capability is more about angles - with as wide and as long as your dad's truck is, he needs much bigger tires and lift to clear the same section than your truck will.
You have a V6, right?
If so, I would say 4.30 for 31", 4.56 for 33", 4.88 for 35" for optimal performance both on and off road.

Lock the rear.
You seem like the type that will want a SAS pretty quickly, so I'd just lock up the rear and see where you sit.
One inch actually. You divide the difference in diameters by 2 to get the difference in radius, which is all that matters. 1" less clearance all around, from fenders to ground clearance.
But, likely better performance in that you won't be breaking stuff as quickly.

Lol yah Im going to take them off. I cant decide if I wanna take off the fenders too, and buy some bushwackers. Do they make pocket flares for 4Runners?
What kinda locker would be tha best? A detroit? Nah I cant afford SAS. Im not a hard wheeler

I wouldn't personally spend money on flares unless its a big issue with the law in your state.
Best? Best is either ARB or elocker. Detroits are good for lesser budget, and on almost no budget, lunchbox lockers are around, aussie and lock right. There are a lot of options.
I have 2 ARBs. Love em. Strong as hell, zero on road issues, and full spool when I need it.

If I were you bud, I would keep it fairly stock. Do small things and save the money. Sure maybe do a cool stereo and take off your runningboards. You don't want to get into lifts and stuff yet. Just give it time. You have a ways to go.
Just take good care of it. No flooring it, no joyriding.
Use good oils and filters and you will enjoy it for a long time.
There are some really cool cheap mods for our trucks. Remember, you want something functional not all just for looks..
