Looking in all the wrong places?
#1
Alright, so I finally want to buy my own rig. I am not really new to this, I just have never had my own. I have worked on toyotas, I have wheeled toyotas, ect. I know way to much about them already considering I dont have one. So its time to fix that and buy my own.
I am looking for either a first or second gen 4runner(or ext cab), in the south preferably near Atlanta. I dont want it too built cause I want this to be my project. Problem is I have been looking for months and it seems like everyone wants one of these things or something. I have seen like a million CL adds for second gen 4 runners completely stock with blown HG, perfect for me. Price 14-2000 dollars? Crazy. 1st gen stock runners and pickups are going for 3-5 grand. Cant do it.
I am a college student looking to buy my own rig, and I am not ready to sell my dd till I have this up and running. Am I wrong in thinking thats a rip off. I use to live in Idaho and the west and they are all over there for a lot less than that. Especially california.
Is this just me or is this just the way its becoming? I know that wheeling is inherently expensive, however to start it seems ridiculous to pay 2k for a car that doesnt run. Now i would gladly pay 1000 dollars or less for one.
I just seem to be looking in all the wrong places.

In the past year I bought 2 87 4x4 5 speed 22rtec for like $2200.00 and another 88 with a whole bed full of extra sheet metal and tires on wheels . For $600.00
Now granted these all run but do need some TLC to get up to my standards . I also don`t advise building 3 trucks at the same time These vehicles are out there you just need to be in the right time and place.
You need to know just what you want have the money in hand and remember most ad prices are far above what they will really take when you have a handful of Franklins and Grants .
