locker on my 97 4runner ltd?

I've got a 97 4runner limited, with 4wd, auto trans and 6 cyl engine. How do I tell if i've got an e locker? I got stuck in the mud this weekend and wonder if that would have made a difference. Here's some pics (I hope they load, haven't tried this before).

Anyway, I was pretty stuck, the rr diff was imbedded in mud, and the rear bumper/tow hitch was hung up, so it probably wouldn't have made a difference, but thought I should know this for future reference. I got pulled out by a cool guy in a Hummer h2 - I was shocked to see one of these off road!

"cool guy" in a H2? I dont think those 2 words should go together in the same sentence.

Certainly those words can go together in a sentence, as in, "Nobody will be fooled into thinking that there is a cool guy in a H2."

How to tell if you have an E-locker--first, look to the left of your steering wheel below the instrument cluster on your dash. If you have a button that says "RR DIFF LOCK", then you're on your way. Next, get under your Runner, look at the rear diff, and look for a part on the third member that doesn't look like it belongs--it will look like a little motor with wires coming out of it. Not to be confused with the ABS speed sensor which has a wire coming out of it as well. If you have said motor, then congratulations, you have the coveted factory rear E-locker. If you still are unsure, search around the forums and you'll find some pictures of this wonderful contraption. Good luck!

Look for a black and red "RR Diff Lock" button on the left side of the dash.

Most Limited 4Runners had diff lock

Thanks for showing me where to look for e locker - no button and no funny looking motor on my diff, so I guess no e locker for me. Better be more careful in the mud.

Re: the "cool guy in the h2" he didn't volunteer to pull me out, I had to "suggest" it - but once he got involved, he was cool and helpful.
