lift plan

figured this was the right section to start this thread. im going to lift my ifs and want to know what you guys think because most of my friends dont understand what im looking for. its mostly trails and rocks around me with little mud so this is what im thinking, 1.5in body lift with 1.5in bj spacers up front and 2in extended shackles in the rear with either aal's or lift blocks. i know the aal's stiffen the ride and was wondering what other guys thought would be better with the shackles, the blocks or aal's. overall im looking for 3 or so inches of lift

AAl or shackle. Skip the blocks.

What size tire are you shooting for? 33?

BJ spacers and shackles works nicely, then you don't need AAL's or blocks for the rear. With the spacers though you might need to drop the front diff, or else you get some pretty nasty looking CV angles.

Long travel kits are cool, but expensive. Unless you want a prerunner its not worth it IMO. The extra flex won't get you very far for crawling and mud for the price you have to pay.

get bj spacers and shackles. what size tire you plan on running? cause even with that small lift you can fit a pretty good size tire but remember gears are important as ever on a daily driver. search gears aswell!

thanks guys. i just got some 31in discoverer stt's the end of january so im going to keep those for a while and get my money out of them. i heard somewhere that with the spacers being under 2in i would not need to diff drop, just to be safe tho i should get it i guess

its been debated time and time again but its up to the person. when i do mine ill do 1.5" with out and just replace the boots with oem parts when i do the install. if you have auto hubs theres no doubt you will need a diff drop. its up too you.

Just to add an opinion here.

Like others have said you'll be fine with the BJ's up front and shackles in the rear. If you're planning on running a 33" tire then you may be ok without the body lift, not that I have anything against a body lift but it does push your center of gravity up a bit. You might also look at just getting a new set of rear springs with the lift you want since Toyota factory springs of that age will tend to sag.

Another option for the rear is always the ZUK mod. Some folks think it's "ghetto" or "half-butted" but I've never had any issues with the ones that I've done and the rigs ended up almost dead level with the 1.5 BJ lift.

Gears are always nice with larger tires but not a necessity if you don't mind the loss of power that some mention.

I'd say do the BJ's up front, the lift you decide on in the rear, and drive it. Put on the new tires when you get them and if they rub a little you can add just enough body lift to clear them.

Best way to clear bigger tires is with a BFH!

the blazelands looks real mean. i think i will go with the shackles and 1.5" bj spacers for now with maybe an inch bL later on so i can put up rock sliders. i also heard the comparison of the spacers vs a bracket lift
