Just Jackin It

So, this goes in the newbie section for sure... This is a 95 4runner btw. I've SAS'd the truck, now am in a quandry about the rear. Want to get it in the air on stands to start cutting for a leaf swap (4" SAS, 6" All-pro rear leafs). Don't have access to the SAS equipment, so for the rear I've got some 6 ton orange and white HF jackstands (you know, the awesome ones) and a matching floor jack. The jackstands aren't tall enough to reach the frame. Read around and elsewhere someone suggested jacking up the rear, taking off the tires and lowering the vehicle down on the stands to start the rear end work, just making sure the axle won't lower onto the floor. Thoughts/opinions?

I have HF 12 ton jack stands. They go to 31 or 32" ish. Work great but I usually jack the axle and take the tires off and lower the rig so I can droop the axle
