to start off,
I just picked up a spotless 85 toyota pickup with a 22r.

It does have a mild issue and I will explain what I have done. I can't figure this thing out and I have worked on/owned MANY Toyota's

On take off and cruising with a steady light throttle the truck BUCKS kinda like surging. If you open it up half throttle or more it really moves!!!! And runs great.

I have....

Replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor
Cleaned carb and adjusted everything the way it should be (still surges at Idle and sputtering on a light steady throttle)
Set timing............... <--- this is the strange one that has led me here!!!!!!



When I plus off the vacume advance and set timing at 0 degrees lock the dissy down and plug in the advance truck idles GREAT and starts VERY EASILY. Get driving down the road and it still surges but not as bad but runs very sluggish..............

Advance the timing to 12 degrees with vacuum plugged plug in advance and it idles poor and KINDA hard to start but has plenty of power.

I know the vacuum advance is working and I see the timing advancing when I rev it up.






Right now I am at a loss...... Any help if any would be GREAT

 

How about to start off you post pics of this sweet 85!!!!!!! And only then will you get your troubleshooting tips, it's in the new member rules that if you have an 85 pics first then questions later.
