Idle issue

I know this has been posted before, but I can't identify with the problems everyone else is having. Now, I have a 1990 4runner st5 v6 3.0 it currently has 286,000 miles on her. I just recently bought it. I only bought it because of the Toyota engine in it. It does have the Japanese engine. On to my problem, it idles high like 1,500 high cold and around 2,000 warm. The guy told me and showed proof of the timing belt and water pump being replaced. I don't really want to throw a bunch of money at it because I have plans for a small block swap. I just need it to run properly for the time being. Any help with ideas would be greatly appreciated

There is a little idle adjustment screw on the 3VZE . Start by making sure they didn't just wind that up to hide a rough idle.
