I have a problem with getting any power

Ok so I have a 85 pick up with a 22re the truck turns over fine and will rev up nicely. But as soon as I put it in drive (automatic) and get to about 10mph it almost seems hungry for fuel. But when I try to give it more gas I can hear the mass air flow flap slamming. I think my tps is off and not adjusted right? But I also talked to some one and they said maybe it could be the timing chain to?? But I checked my guides and the tension on my chain and everything looked alright and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Any idea would it could be? Anything helps. Thanks
