Hey guys I was wondering if anybody knew how much the A340H transmission weighs. I know the Auto's are heavier than the manual trans, but by how much? I am getting ready to pull the 22re out of my 85 4runner to replace the rear main seal and check all the bearings and I am trying to figure out what I might need to support the transmission. I came up with this idea yesterday. Is This going to be strong enough to support the transmission or should I use a different method?

 

Plenty strong.

Be aware of the trannys' unbalanced configuration though.

The transfercase weight wants to turn the tranny sideways some.

If the rear mount is still connected, you should be golden.

Heck, the single 2x4 across the springs ought to do it.

 

Like millball says, I just use a 2x4 across the springs when pulling a motor out of a solid axle truck.

 

Thanks guys for the input. I just wanted to make sure that it was going to be strong enough as I have heard these auto transmissions are HEAVY. I do still have the transmission mount fully bolted up so I'm hoping that the trans shouldn't rotate too much on me. I might go and make a wood wedge to jam against the crossmember and the transfer case itself to try and stop it moving. Now I just have to borrow my friends engine crane and I should have this motor pulled soon.

 

Your truck sure does look spotless underneath.

None of mine are near that clean on the top-side.

 

Thanks. I just rebuilt the knuckles on the front axle and did the wheel bearings so I cleaned up the axle while I was waiting on parts. Took about a week of spraying de-greaser and scrubbing with a wire brush to get it that clean. haha

 

I use Easy Off oven cleaner on parts like that. Cleans up quick. Looks good under there.
