how to stop rust?

i have an 87 4runner and it is pretty much rust free except some on the passenger side windshield pillar due to the windshield molding allowing water and whatever else to get in behind it .does anyone have a remedy for this that looks like stock.also i would like to stop rust from happening in the future,i want to use a bed lining in the interior floors, any brands you all have had success with?also i would like to put somekind of rust preventer in behind the rear quarter panels what do you all recommend.thanks for the help .Ted

I stripped my 88, took everything out includding the center consol and front kick panels. Also took those rear plastic covers to the insine of the quater panels were exposed and i rock guarded everything. Its a heck of a lot nicer than it was before. The carpet was holding water wich probably woulda led to some rust too. And i just cut the carpet off at the back of the seats there cuz in mine it connected. Looks sharp and is easy to clean and i feel that the inside of my quater panels are protected
