Hi, I'm new to this forum, so excuse me if I'm posting out of thread. I recently just got a 2000 Toyota 4Runner and I've been trying to think of some ways to improve it. I was wondering what are some ideas in terms of lift kits, body kits, suspension kits, tires, rims that will let me keep overall ride smoothness, but still looks great. The first thing you need to do is determine what size tire you want first and then determine how much lift you need to fit them.

Body lifts are the cheapest, but not the best. If you go this route, I'd say keep it below 1.5".

I don't know much about suspension lifts for the 3rd gen 4Runners, but most of the kits I've seen just have coil spacers. This means you can keep your factory springs. I think I've seen them go up to 3". You'll also have to get a differential drop kit if you go with a coil spacer over 2" (I think). There may be bracket lift kits out there for these, but I'm just not familiar with them. If there are, they probably come with different springs so the ride might be different.

 

best tip is to read. A LOT. do your homework and find out what YOU want and what YOU like in your truck. look at build threads to see what you can build or do and what you would have to pay other people to build or do for you. Remember this. if you change one thing, you will affect 5 other components or systems. do your homework on anything and everything you choose to change. its your truck and your money so enjoy it.

How small?

 

So I'm thinking about a 2", will that clear 33's?

Most important question is "how deep are your pockets?"

That's going to be the biggest factor in what you're going to do to the truck.

If you don't have a fortune to spend you're going to be very frustrated trying to do anything significant in this field.

 

Money is not an issue, I'm just trying to get the best on my Yota.

Parents are well off and as long I'm actually doing something with myself, hence me being in college at my own choice, they will fund everything for me that is reasonable until I get a job from my major.

 

Get the running boards off it and add some rock bars.

2" should be fine 3 inches and you start to look goofy
Serona offers a suspension lift for it but it won't ride the same and its pretty pricey
