Heli-coil problem
#21
i'd get the right helicoil kit, and if you're going to do it, do it properly. disassemble as far as you must to get a straight shot at the hole. you only get one chance at this, really, and you'll kick yourself if you munge the bock for the sake of a few hours dis/reassembly time.
what size was the original bolt?

Well, I got it. I removed the oil pump (why didn't I think of that earlier????) then used a bottle jack against the frame and a piece of plywood to press the tap in one 1/4 turn at a time. The helicoil fit perfect and it is all back together.

The thing that messed me up was that I was trying to work around the headers. I messed around for quite awhile before just removing the headers so I could have good access to the hole. After that they both went in within a couple minutes. Moral of the story? If you are trying to work around something...bite the bullet and remove it. Or you will fight with it for an hour like I did and in the end, end up taking it off anyways.
It wasn't a total loss though...Jay351 was quite entertained with my performance.
