Heater hose routing

I have a 1987 4x4 Pickup that I am replacing the head gasket on. I was thinking about cleaning things up under the hood and have looked at a bunch of threads on desmogging and in one thread it was showing to take the heater inlet hose off the bottom of the intake instead of off the head like is factory. I still have all the emissions stuff in place and am worried that I will create problems of overheating if I don't do this right. Am I best off to leave everything alone? The truck ran great before the head gasket problem. I have the stock Asian carb and can not afford a Webber at this time. I am not sure if I am overthinking this and could use advise.

Toyota really came up with a simple but effective design of these old motors. I would leave it alone unless something is broken. But it's your rig so if you want to tinker with it.
