Floor Jack and Jack Stands for Lift Install
I need to obtain a floor jack and jack stands to install my lift. Anyone have any suggestions as to what brand floor jack and jack stands I should avoid? For example, is Craftsman a brand I should avoid or is it ok despite being sold by Sears?
Also, what weight rating should I be seeking for the floor jack and jack stands? I am thinking at least 2 tons should be ok but I really am not sure.
I will have a look at what used floor jack and jack stands people have available for sale on Craigslist and am hoping to save some money by going that route for purchasing the floor jack and jack stand but am looking for advice on the matter as well.
Thanks for any and all related help.

The problem with "low weight" jack stands, is that they are also short.
We just put a 5" lift on my son's 85 truck. I have 6 ton stands because they were about 8"taller than the standard 3 ton stands everyone sells. They barely held the frame high enough to hang the springs. Now if he needs to use stands, he has to pull the tires because the axles are only 3" off the ground.
We are going to get some 12 ton stands. They are about 30" tall at full lift. but cost about $80 a pair at Harbor freight....more at real tool stores. Also harder to find.
At work we have some stands that are about 4 foot max (for semi trucks)

x2 on the height issue. The little 3 ton ones are great for under the axle, but about worthless under the frame since they are so short. Mine are a mix of Craftsman, HF, and ProLift. They all work about the same.
Where in CO are you? We have everything you need at any of the COTTORA HOW's (House of Wrenching). There's one in Parker and another in Longmont.

edit:
I read a little of the forums on the COTTORA site so I have a slight understanding of the HOW now. Thanks for mentioning it.
Would I just post an inquiry on the COTTORA forum as to getting an idea of the next time a Parker HOW is scheduled?

I used a set of 6 ton jack stands I got from the local cheap tool store ($20), and a 3 1/2 ton jack I got a costco.
I tried to use a cheapy "2ton" jack, it could only lift one rear tire at a time...
