first ball joint replacement (dakota)

I'm posting here because you guys are the best. I can't wrap my head around how I'm going to get the ball joints pressed out with my c press without removing the axle.

I'm starting to rethink this and I'm coming up with removing the knucle first. leaving the axle in place and then pressing them out. Is this the right? I'd like to not remove the axle if possible.

I just did a ton more research. Only problem I have is not owning a pickle fork. Anyone do this job without one?

I did mine on my 91 runner using a pitman are puller. I got one for $3 at harbor frieght that broke before the job was over so I got a new one at an auto parts store for $12.
