Hey there, I have a 2000 SR5 4WD w/ the body colored wide fender flares. I saw another late 3rd gen SR5 with black flares. I was wondering what the difference might be. Was there a year that the SR5s came with black flares and only the Limiteds had the colored ones or is there a different package that included the wider, colored flares? I'm curous what other options might come with this package if it exists. I do have the rear locker as well, if that matters.

depends on what package you ordered when it was new. There were actually 4 options for flares on the 4Runners, depending on the years.

96-98 SR5 had 2 options: small chrome, and medium size black textured.
99+ SR5 had 3 options: Small chrome, medium black textured, and Large painted style

All limited flares were essentially the same, large and painted. The way they attached varied between 98-99, but the general look was there.

BTW the painted Limited and painted SR5 flares are NOT the same. SR5 are flares only, where the Limited were flares/body cladding all in one moulded piece.
