Factory Tranny Cooler?

Did any 3rd Gens come with factory tranny coolers? If not, what is a good one to use and what size? Is a cheap B&M cool ok? Thanks

I don't think any came with factory coolers. As for what to use search on here for Hayden coolers, I can't remember the model # that most guys are using. The Hayden stacked plate ones are only $60-70 so I would get one of them instead of a cheap one.

You're looking for a Hayden 1678.

$47.57 plus shipping from Makco Distributing.

Im looking at adding one to my second gen but cant find a place to put it up front.

the spot on the pass side of the grill is filled with an stock aux fan.

for the cooler in the linke you need 8x12" space

Yes, most if not all auto's come with a factory tranny cooler, it's built into the radiator.

The 1678 is the TRD cooler and will fit on a 3rd gen, which is what the OP was looking for... The 1678 is actually overkill for the 3rds since you run it in addition to the stock inner core.

Do the 2nd's have an inner core for the tranny on the stock radiator? If so, then you could get away with a smaller cooler:

TruCool has even more options:

As far as I know they all do, look at the bottom of the rad. There will be a tube comming off both ends of the rad, that id for the tranny cooler

The OP didn't specify whether he meant 3rd gen truck or 4runner. Either way, it doesn't matter because they all have the stock tranny cooler.

My '93 has a small cooler by the transmission in addition to the one in the radiator. Looks to be stock.

That's for the transfer case, not specifically the transmission.

yeah i was doing a search for radiators because i just nicked mine while doing some trimming and I dont think it is the radiator. Its a small grate like a radiator that is in front of the radiator. if anyone knows what this is please elaborate. Its a 2002 sport 4runner.

If it looks like a thin radiator, with lots of fins it's probably the A/C condensor. If you've added a tranny cooler then it could be that too. What do you mean by nicked, is it leaking or did you just damage some fins.
