Engine Swap

Hello all.

I'm new to the threads here and im looking for some higher knowledge. I have an 88 P/U 4x4 22RE and a 91 2WD with a bad 22RE. I was thinking about swapping the motor from the 4x4 in the 2WD. Im not sure if there would be any issues in doing that so i figured i would consult you all for this. The motor itself probably isn't much different from both models but I wonder if electrical things would be direct hook up (i.e. fuel pump, ecu)?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

its going to be more then you think i took a 92 2wd 22re and swapped it to a 92 22re 4x4 the sensors are different there is alot of little things that add up to be a pain it is doable tho. the motor is the same just going from a 2wd to a 4x4 is different.

There's not a lot of differences between a 2wd and 4wd. The '94 22RE I swapped into my '88 was a 2wd. I kept the '88 wiring harness. The biggest thing I can think of having to do off the top of my head is swap oil pans.

Depending on year and location, some do/don't have a knock sensor.. if your truck has a knock sensor, make sure the engine you're putting in has one or the timing will be impossible to set up.
