Engine sludge

Did the 1990 3VZE have an engine sludge problem? I am going to change oil for first time since buying vehicle and dont want to use high detergent oil that might stir up sludge and ruin my engine(233,000 miles).Thinking about Castrol high mileage.

depends on how the vehicle was maintained.. but these are not known for sludge problems.

If your worried about it, buy a can of seafoam and pour half of it in the oil and suck the other half in through the intake, and that will clean out any heavy deposits that might be in the engine.

Just wondering how many of you have used Seafoam and what is your take on it? I would assume you would want to do this just before an oil change, sure it would be on the directions but I have never seen this product but have heard good thing about it. When doing a cleanout like that what risk are involved with sending clumps into places where they might plug up oil flow? Or is this stuff supposed to desolve the sludge? Looking through the previuos owners records he let Jiffy Lube put Penzoil Highmilge in it and when you look at the lifters through the oil filler there is some signs of sludge. I put Moble 1 high milage in it today when changing the oil for the first time myself on this rig, and that is supposed help remove some and condition the seals.

Well the engine bay is virtually spotless and the entire vehicle looks to have been well taken care of.Im gonna go with a high mileage oil since these motors dont have a history of sludge destruction. Thanks for info.
