ECU/ECM Swap Question!

Howdy all - New to the forum, adn happy to be here. I am currently doing a 3vz to 5vz swap on my '94 Runner. I am suck at the ECU/ECM (I know they are the same thing...) . I need to know if there is a difference between the manual and Auto ECU's that go with the 5vz. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Pretty certain yes they are different, what I recall is at some point the ECT (trans controller) was integrated with the ECU. Anecdotal I think this is when Toyota started calling it an ECM.

I have heard of people using auto ECUs in manual conversions by jumping the neutral circuit to somehow trick the ECU into thinking its hooked to an auto trans. Also, 4x4 and 2x4 ECUs are different (obviously).
I had offroadsolutions.com build my harness and find an ECU for me, but even if you don't want to go that route I'd recommend giving them a call with your question. They're very nice people and extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
