Double Cardan Trouble

need all info on double cardan joints u can give. Center of my joint was rusted and broke off i think. I just got this 97 toyota tacoma in June. a guy at the shop said the part needed to be made and ordered special because toyota didnt make replacement parts for it. how to i fix this or is there a cheaper way.

There shouldn't be any need for that part to be made. I just went through this process last night on a customers Jeep and I got the part from a driveline shop, so that would be where I'd suggest ya start first. The part cost less then 40$ and didn't take too long to swap out. If you plan on tackling it yourself, you'll need a vise, a pair of sockets and needle nose pliers. If your unfamilliar with changing u joints, pm me and i can walk ta through it. Hope this helps.

Not that there aren't ways of replacing the double cardan(with one that will work just as good as stock), but Toyota will only sell you a replacement as part of an entire Propeller Shaft Assembly(w/ Center Bearing). And will not sell you any parts for a double cardan, AFAIK. The prop shaft assembly is ~$1036.
