door locks

Hey all I got a quick question. Just bought a 93 regcab short box 22re, 5spd. Nicest one in Ontario. Was imported from Kentucky a couple years back. Anywho the guy i bought it from didnt have the door key. I called up the Toyota dealer and their records only go till 96. But the service guy said that I could just take my lock out and a locksmith can cut a new one. My question is are the door locks and gas lock the same? Because I would much rather take out the gas lock then take apart the door. Thanks

yes door all locks and ignition keys should be the same on toyotas however the gas door lock seems to be the first one to seize up and is sometimes replaced with a non-matching lock set or if they replaced the ignition after a theft attempt it might not match either... if you pull the passenger door panel you should be able to read the lock code off the cylinder and get a copy that way, maybe even from the dealer...
You might also try calling Toyota canada to register your vehicle ownership for recalls etc. they might be able to provide you with the key code also.

Aviator where about in Ontario are you? So you're saying that the key for the ignition should work for everything(ignition, doors, gas latch)?

Yep. Unlike older American cars, Toyotas use just one key for everything. My gas door, ignition, and doors on my '94 are all operated with one key.
