Doing Clutch help with drive shaft!
Hey guys I'm new to yotatech and a relative newbie to auto-mechanic work. I've done front seal, water pump stuff like that.
So I'm replacing the clutch on my 94 2wd pickup (to save money of course) and I hate to admit it - but I'm already stuck!
I'm trying to remove the drive shaft. I removed the bolts holding the shaft at the rear flange.
The front, apparently, just slides into and out of the transmission. I am assuming that there are splines that can slide in and out. There is a dust cover and that is all. (bear in mind this is a 2wd)
My problem is that I can't get the shaft to budge.
Hanes manual says move the shaft forward a bit and slide it out. I wish it were that simple.
Anyone experience this and know of some techniques to get it out?
Help is much appreciated I would love to get going with this again ...

Also I have read some people talk about trans fluid running out once the shaft is removed. Is that true?
Doesn't seem like it would work that way. I know Hanes says to drain tranny but I wasn't planning on doing that.
Is it really necessary?

I see from that manual that it will leak oil once the shaft is removed. They say replace it with SST 08325–20010 to prevent oil leakage.
Still I can't get the shaft to come off the flange at the rear. Should I take a hammer to it? I saw someone on youtube doing that to remove a similar drive shaft. They hammered right at the yoke.
Edit: well now I'm embarrassed. It was pretty simple. I hit it lightly with a hammer until it came loose. slides in and out no problem. Guess I will change the tranny fluid after all.

In years past when I have had to pull the driveshaft, on a rare occasion I have used a prybar to get it out of the tranny yoke.
Make sure your parking brake is set AND there is a set of chock blocks on one set of tires. Once you pop the driveshaft out, you will not have the transmission holding the truck in gear. It could roll on you if you don't.
Put a drain pan under the rear tail of the tranny to catch the oil.
