distributor question

I have a 93 4runner that is my pride and joy, she had two bolts fall out that held the driveshaft at the top yoke, but replaced all 4 bolts with grade 5 bolts. After starting a test drive, she got up to speed smoothly, was timing good, then just cut off. No spark whatsoever. She has fuel delivery, replaced the ignition modulator, pick up coil is showing power but no spark. Was told that there was a sensor or something in the distributor, and had to replace the whole distributor assembly. Is there any validity to this?
Very Much appreciated!!

Joe
