CV axle boot replacement
I took my truck into auto shop today, and I just can't get the hub off. These are aisin manual hubs. I got the front off, but can't get anywhere after removeing the "gold colored" bolt. My auto teacher says the cone washers on the outside of the hub body are stuck, and that if we can get those off the whole thing will come off gears and all. I have to remove the "flange nuts" also. I can't bust these things loose even with an air ratchet. I will take ANY and all advice on how to do everything to get the boot(s) replaced. I will be going into autoshop tomorrow and need it done before the weekend. Thanks all, Sean

Well, to get the flange nuts loose I usually use a breaker bar. I loosen them first before taking the hubs apart. Because I need the hubs to lock and stop the CV axle from spinning while I loosen a couple of the nuts. Then unlock it and turn the axle a bit then lock it and loosen the next couple nuts, so on and so forth.
Then take the hubs off. The cone washers are a bit of a pain. I use a screw driver pounded into the split of the washer to pop 'em out. Try pouding on the ends of the hub studs with a brass drift if that don't work.
There's nothing complicated about putting new boots on once you get the axles off the vehicle. Oh yeah, to get them out you'll need to remove the lower shock bolts on each front shock to slide them out.

Thanks, I figured once I got the hubs off it would be easy to replace the boots, just a matter of taking the old ones off, cleaning crud out of anything that needs it and sliding the new ones on. I already have the kit for inner, and the other for outer that comes with grease. Once again, thanks for the tips.

Yep, no problem, and good luck with those washers. I already had to replace some of the hubs studs on mine because I beat the hell out of 'em trying to get those stupid cone washers off.
