crazy squeaking noises
#1
I think my front u joint is going out, not sure. Going down hill, 55-60 mph I get a crazy squeaking noise but it quits when I apply torque to the wheels. I greased up the all the zerts to both front and rear but it also makes suspicious noises going around corners or when you hard turn the wheels. I was wondering if it could also be the front diff. Hard to to tell without hanging off the bottom of truck like an escape convict while someone else drives. I am pretty sure I am running out of things to replace on this truck. I have a question about u joints, how do I tell if the u joints are Dana or Toyota

I will volunteer to drive. If you want to play convict. Haha
Have you looked at your front diff fluid?
Pulled the driveshaft and checked for play after it is removed.
I know you know all this and have probable done it. But just throwing it out there
Good luck

Lololohaha it is good to know someone has my six.
I am currently learning about the drive line and steering stuff. I definitely have to pull the rear drive line I got under there and found the yoke sliding sideways on the bad u joint. Scary stuff considering that I just made a 600 mile round trip to Cali and it got me home. I truly gained a renewed respect for my little Yota truck.
The front diff fluid is what I thought it was, i have been trying to crack the fill plug it is really on there. Someone told me today to try something called Triflow I am a fan of PB blaster.

Ok, I will give it a shot I have a breaker bar coming tomorrow to help break it loose. Now all I have to do is figure out what u joint is in that yoke so I know what to put back in it. Have to find a BFH (big freaking hammer ) to get it out too.
My BFH is my BFF wahahaha lol, I made a funny

With stuck threads. I have found trying to screw them in a 16th of a turn sometimes breaks them loose. Also a gentle whack from a hammer may break any rust loose. I said GENTLE. You have been warned.

I try to only use my bfh after my bfrm (rm-hard rubber mallet). Even have used heat. Not sure I would use heat on a diff though. Defiantly try tightening it a bit. Sometimes you have to put PB blaster on several days in a row. Usually works after a week of application.

I agree with the week of application cause the last time I tried it the first application didn't do but I think it had something to do with 7 below zero temps we had that day. Had it on my mind ever since and every time a new squeak or rattle pops up I blame it on the diff... Lol My friends usually just roll their eyes and sigh.
