crankshaft oil seal housing

Replacing the timing belt and decided to change the oil seals on the camshafts and crank. However, I damaged the outer edge and a bit inside of the crank seal housing when I was taking out the old seal.

Can anyone tell me if I should worry about this? It would be a lot easier for me just to replace the oil pump cover now.

Thanks,

I will admit that I am a total noob, especially when it comes to engine work but that won't stop me from trying to give a little advice

I scratched the housing for the axle seal while trying to replace them myself. When I put everything back together, the seal was leaking from between the outer surface of the seal and the housing.

A really smart member on here suggested that I coat the outside of a new seal with Permatex Right Stuff before installing and that worked like a champ. I bet you could do the same thing here but I would wait for someone to confirm that this is a good idea before doing it. Like I said, I have never done any real work on the motor and I don't know if it would be anymore sensitive to problems with the "Right Stuff" than an axle would...

Thanks Marcus. I will try it and see what happens. If it doesn't work, I'll have another excuse to pull the engine apart again.
