Basic maintenance?

Hi, Im 16 and just got my first car (2002 4runner 4wd and 180k on it) I know almost nothing about working on cars and was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction. I dont know if it makes a difference but I live on a dirt road where to get to town or back to my house there are some parts where i have to put it in 4wd. I know my 4runner will require maintenance but I dont know what and my family doesn't have that much money so we cant really afford to bring it to a mechanic if something breaks

Buy you a Haynes Manual. If you can get a Factory Service Manual would be better. Anytime you have service coming up, do lots of research on here and elsewhere and some one has already done it. Go thru several threads that are to your truck and you will learn alot on here. Some will have advise and easier ways to get task done. Might even find which parts are the better way to go and where to get them. A little time on this site will teach you alot and save you alot of money and headaches. Welcome to Yotatech.
