Anyone ever painted Factory rims?

Has anyone painted they're 2nd gen 4Runner rims?
My trucks looking kinda stale and don't have the money to buy some black rims, so was just curious what my factory rims would look like if painted black?
Could look really, really, stupid, or could look decent.
Anyone ever painted Factory rims?-04576557_008.jpg
What do you guys think? If anyone has a pic that'd be greatly appreciated. thanks,
Charlie

Thanks for that very helpful post.

Crimson Yota,

I have a picture of this style rim painted black with a polished edge/lip. However, I can't figure out how to post it. PM me, and I will send it to you.

I, too, am in the process of researching how these style rims would look painted/powder coated. I think they look pretty nice. My reasons for painting them (instead of purchasing aftermarket rims) is to keep the factory look of my 4Runner.

He's right though...

Look up AZKid's build-up thread - he has his 2nd gen rims painted flat black IIRC.

You need to host the images using a site like Photobucket, Flickr, SmugMug, etc...
Then you just surround the image location from one of those sites with [IMG] tags and it will appear.

What is with all the new guys getting defensive when someone tells them to search, or when no one replies to their threads.

And imo alloy wheels, especially stock ones look bad painted black. Keep an eye out on craigslist for a set of black steel wheels, they are on there for like 100 bucks.

I've been looking into doing this too, I just haven't found a good time that i won't need my truck to drive somewhere for 24 hours while the paint dries. i did my spare though!

heres a comparison of what it looked like black vs silver/gray. whatever that color would be called.

^those look good, i just dont like the x wheels painted black, maybe just because i know that they are not supposed to be black, so painting them just seems cheap.
Reminds me of the ricer kids at school that paint their wheels black.

process was hose it down and wash it then i go a grinder and ground off all the oxidation and rust then sprayed it with rustoleum rust reformer where there was minor rust, then smoothed it down with steel wool, then sprayed it with self etching primer and smoothed it out with more steel wool, then sprayed it with black engine enamel then a clear coat. all rustoleum brand.

i think the would look pretty good, a red runner calls for gloss black, not flat, the flat would look stupid, but to get better depth, instead of going with just a gloss paint, go with a flat paint with a gloss clearcoat, that way isntead of just looking shiny black, it will look shiney black that someone just sprayed with a garden hose if ya know what i mean.

Thanks for the help guys, and sorry for being rude

Guess I just didn't search hard enough.
They don't look terrible painted black, and I think gloss would look best. Thanks
