Ajusting E-BRAKE??
I feel like my Parking Brake needs to be tighten. I have a 2000 4Runner. I have to pull the brake all the way and it still feels like the brake should be grapping tighter.
Is it possible for me adjust this myself or have a shop do it?
BTW, when the E-Brake is engaged do all 4 brakes grab?

No, just the rear drums.

with a proper working Ebrake and rear drums every time you pull the Ebrake it should adjust its self I would first remove the little rubber check plug on the back brake drums and check the thickness or your rear shoes then adjust them if they are not to worn down.

There was a good thread on here about pulling the brake while backing up at a slow speed.... cant remember the rest but it worked well on mine...search and see what you can find
edit... i think that thread is now gone.. ill search to see what i can find. I remember it talked about how many clicks it should take for the brake to be tight. Put the truck in reverse and let it roll with your finger on the release button pull the brake handle untill the truck stops and repeat process a few more times. After that check and see how many clicks it takes for the brakes to fully engage.

Ive been looking for an answer for a while now and this thread seems to be the closest and most recent to address it. My ebrake works but it takes too many clicks to lock in. It also rattles (at the handle) at high speeds from what seems to be slack in the cable. If I pull the handle up slightly it stops rattling. Can the cable be adjusted using the rolling back and handle pumping trick or do I need to go under and manually tighten the cable? If I need to go under then where am I going and what am I looking for exactly? Thanks.

It sounds like your ebrake does need some adjusting. Try the method mentioned here first. If it is still too loose after adjusting, you can tighten the cable by tightening the nut that attaches the cable to the handle. You'll probably have to use a socket with an extension but it is located near the base of the handle and is not too hard to get to. That took care of my rattling noise.

IIRC, my cable only has one nut on it but that is where I tightened it, right where the cable attaches to the handle. I probably had the exact same rattle and that fixed it for me. I don't know why you would have 2 nuts and mine only 1 but I bet tightening them would fix your rattle. Good luck!

Yup, that looks like the one. Just tighten it down a little bit and take the truck out for a spin. If it still rattles, just repeat the process until you are happy with the results.
