95 4Runner starts rough?
Specs:95 toyota 4runner w/ automatic transmission, BJ spacers, 31" tires, no engine mods.
Yeah, today i was with my girlfriend and i started my truck and it was running really rough. Like shaking and would kind of sputter when i'd touch the gas at first. It only lasted about 30 seconds and stopped and while it did it, my temp gauge started to go up.
Obviously i immediately parked again on the side of the road and topped off the oil to be safe and it acted normal for the rest of the drive then i pulled into target to pick up some last minute groceries on the way home and when i was leaving and started it, it did it again. I didn't get a chance to check the radiator water (engine was hot) but i'm pretty sure that shouldn't cause something like this.
The only thing i could think of is an oil pump or maybe my oil was lower than i thought. Could that be just a simple lubrication problem?
Anyone else have any suggestions that i could check out just to be safe?

Well, the oil wasn't low. I checked it and it didn't even take the full quart. I could see engine coolant in the radiator but i topped it off anyways and it hasn't done it since that one day. I looked around the heads but i know the head gaskets were all replaced right before i bought the truck and didn't see any oil leaks or any oil anywhere around the engine... Just that time of the month maybe?
I'm still considering having the oil pump tested/checked out. I'd hate to have to rebuild the engine when it could have been prevented by something so simple.

One thing you might check is the wiring. Start your truck and grab that big bundle of wires that come from your under your fuel rail. Pull and bend it. A lot of the times those wires break and and lose contact. If your truck misses while your shaking it is a good sign. This is a notorius problem that a lot of people overlook.
