I purchased this 4runner several years ago from my wife's father in law for 1100 bucks with 204,000 mi on it. It ran up until 228,000 mi when it quit on me he first time. We replaced distributor cap, plug wires, plugs, fuel pump, fuel filter, used MAF, and put a new battery in. Still couldn't figure out the problem. It sat for a year or so In the back yard until I was able to have it worked on. I took it in and the mechanic told me after it sat there for abt 2 months that it had a clog in the fuel line, which would make sense seeing as how it would only start but run extremely rough for a split second. The fuel pump also hadn't been seat properly which was my mistake. I've done a visual inspection the best that I can tell everything is fine. The strange thing about my problem is whenever I put it in 4 wheel drive the check engine light will go away. Any ideas on why that is and what could potentially be causing this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated considering this is my daily driver now.
