87 new clutch problems
Hey guys im new to this fourm ive been reading and looking around quite a bit and im having some trouble find the answer to my problem.
So i have an 87 4runner i just swapped a cherry 22re into and put on a new clutch and flywheel. i wnet to start it up and the clutch was slipping and very good. then i it hit me i forgot to clean all the parts with brake cleaner...
So i pulled out the tranny this time and took off the clutch sanded down the flywheel and cleaned all the parts with brake cleaner and installed using gloves.
then i also thought i would change out the master clutch cylinder and a new slave. bleed the whole system and went for a test drive i could kind of smell the clutch burnin a little and it would grab up to 3000 rpms then if i went anymore then that it would just slip. i have no idea what the problem can be im soo stump the tranny shifts very smooth and the 22re only has about 70k on it and very strong.
please help im at such a loss after so much work.
Thank you in advance

Could it be your driving style?? Sometimes clutches need to wear in but I have not seen that in person in years.
What about the Clutch release bearing ??
I am sure you must have got a kit as they are hard to come by alone any more.
Did you compare the old parts with new?
So many things packaged in the correct box but the wrong parts.
For some reason the clutch is not engaging all the way. Is the clutch pedal coming all the way out.
clutch pedal Broken bracket, wrong slave cylinder, wrong release bearing or wrong pressure plate/disc. warped flywheel or clutch causing spotty contact surface . When clutches get hot they will slip.
To much slipping will ruin the clutch lining to the point it is junk alongwith getting fly wheel to hot.
Unless you have the habit of getting parts really covered in grease There is no reason to have to clean them with brake cleaner.
So many things could be incorrect or wrong you just have to check the easy external ones first and go from there.

thanks for the reply ya its was a clutch kit from napa.. and a brand new flywheel aswell I also put in a new master clutch and slave cylinder. the pedal feels perfect its is nice and firm the clutch at first engages at a nice location with enought free play in the pedal the car will grab some what will go about 15 to 20mph but if u tryed it give it gas over 3k prm it would just slip but also when i would downshift the clutch would grab very good and slow the truck quickly. I also put in a new release bearing aswell and all the parts looked good just the pressure plate was a little larger.
