If I were you and depending on what you using the truck for I wouldn't put A/C in because it robs HP, but that my thought.

A/C compressor only robs horsepower while you have the A/C on...

if there is any HP rob while it is off....it might be 1/4 of one hp...because i can turn my A/C compressor pulley with my hand...EXTREMELY easily..(the compressor is good..it worked when i took the belt off)..

im guessing...just guessing now....

if you have a button...that makes the starter turn....im guessing its a push button ignition...just guessing...seen em on alot of Chevy Luv's.

o..and the cheapest..and best way to add A/C...is to buy a GOOD used compressor...and..assuming you have all the lines for the A/C..hook em up!!!...

make sure it has the R134A fittings though...

yeah I wasn't sure if it robbed a lot, for some reason I thought it did.

When you put the key in the ignition to start your truck does it turn over and start ?, the reason i asked is because when i got my 86 4Runner the previous owner had wired in a push button start switch because the electrical part of the ignition switch had gone bad, so instead of properly fixing the ignition switch by replacing the electrical part of the switch he rigged this half assed fix, so i ended up removing all of this mess and just replacing the ignition switch and everything works again.

yea "myyotta" is right, i have this problem with my 83 truck but unfortunately i have not found out the problem after replacing the starter, ignition switch, and getting a new battery. if it starts not turning over when you turn the key, check the ignition switch and starter relay, if that's not it then you might have to live with the push button start.

Same Problem

I have a '86 4-runner manual trans 22re.... and I have this stupid "safety" switch... I have replaced the starter, battery and still have no idea why it wont start.... When I turn the key after the button is pressed, sometimes it will start, other times I hear a single click, and a whining noise... Any Ideas?

does the truck have a auto trans ? the switch may be there because the neutral safety switch is bad or out off adjustment .i don't remember the correct name for the switch.
