I like to know as much about my truck as possible short of being ASE certified so I went on the net and discovered this.
My "91 is actually a 5th generation truck according to the all knowing but sometimes less than accurate Wikipedia.

WTF??
Is it a 3rd or 5th?

gen. = body style...

gen 1: 79-83
gen 2: 84-88
gen 3: 89-95...

Notice not once did I say Tacoma in that there is no garsh danged Tacoma until 1995! sorry, peeve of mine...

Calling a 22R era truck a Tacoma is a slur!

right. Only two types to 1995... The SAS was the same 79-85. IFS was the same 86-95.

Then Toyota North America screwed up... Because that's what lazy fat ass americans wanted... A completely numb suspension and steering...

For there to be a roll over warning on my 91, I sure could show any car I came across on my way home a thing or two... Even raced a buddy w/o knowing it one time that raced go carts... I was stuck like glue to him on some twisty roads

And I can back in/ drift my 93 4Runner like I had a sponsor when I had it... God I love panhard bars...

Taco's suck. That is all.

i believe a true first generation (AMERICAN) toyota truck is a 60's..then the 2nd generation 70's toyota's (seen about 5 in my life), then the 3rd generation 79-83 toyota's, then the 4th gen 84-88 (89 for 4runners) then the 5th gen 89-95's (90-95 for 4runners).

if we wanna get technical
