85 Yota Timing/Injector Question

Ok, i bought a 85 Toyota with the 22re engine. The guy told me he replaced head gasket but when he did, he didnt mark the plugs for the injectors. So he told me i would either have to get engine harness to make it easy or trace the wires back. Well i tried starting the truck yesterday with the injectors like they were and i used starting fluid in the intake and it backfired out of the intake. Some say thats timing, well im new to this so i dont know how to adjust the timing. Can any help me out???

Download the field service manual for your truck here: (it's best to right-click and then save as)

That should tell you everything you need to know.

I understand about trucks being rigged. I just bought a 86. started burning oil afther the first oil change. Bad valve seals. I flushed it and changed the oil again now the oil psi gauge works but smokes more and now have a blown head gasket. I was going to have the head redone, but found a new head online for the same price. While I'm in there I will be replaceing everything that can be replaced. The guy that owned it before me liked to use rtv for everything. I will probably find some on the head gasket.LOL This truck will rock when done.
