85 toyota 4runner 22re idle/running problem
I have a 1985 toyota 4runner. Just rebuilt the engine, but when I start it, it runs fine for about 10 seconds then it tries to die, I call it glitching because it runs then does this glitch then runs fine. Then when I it the gas it sputters. The truck is also a automatic transmission. I hooked the vacuum lines just like the service manual told me and it still has the issue. Please help!

This might be a dumb question but do you have the air intake hose hooked up to the throttle body? Some people will try to run the truck with it off not realizing that no air is getting pulled thru the sensor in the airbox. Could also be you TPS needs some adjustment.

Im having that exact same problem. Did you fix yours? If so can you tell me what the problem was? I've been trying to figure it out for weeks. I've thought it was vacuum, iac, tps, afm.....

my 1985 is doing something similar, but not the same.
It will start up fine the first time, then have trouble starting up warm. I'm working my way thru the vacuum system at this point, and once I have that rewired (new vacuum hose and PCV and such) then if it's still doing it, I expect to do the test on the fuel pump to insure that it is not getting canceled by some other component not getting the signal to the fuel pump. There is a test plug in the engine compartment and you can short the two leads in it an it will turn on the fuel pump whenever the key is turned ON. After that, well, I hope I have fixed it by then............
