I Have a 82 4x4 truck with 4'' suspention lift and 2'' blocks under the leaf springs in the front and 3'' in the back. My problem is where the steering shaft and nuckle join it is touching the leaf spring/ U bolt that holds it all together. cant turn the wheel at all. will a Z link fix this? do they make a modified steering nuckle? can I modify stock parts to make this work? thanks for the help guys.

 

I might be wrong but with 6" total suspension lift you might have to run highsteer and not the factory push/pull?

On a side note, why the heck do you need 6"-7" of lift? Your gonna most likely gonna get slammed for using blocks.

 

I need 7'' of lift to keep my 35 14.50 s off the finders. If I run the high steer can I still use the stock steering box?

I don't see how just 4" will not clear 35's. 7" is way too much. An IFS rig can practically clear 35's on a 4" bracket lift. Unless your springs are dead flat. If so then they will wind up looking like this _/\_ _/\_ with those blocks on there.

 

First off, take the blocks out of there. Besides being illegal, they are extremely unsafe. You do NOT need 7" of lift to clear 35" tires. I have 3" TG springs on my 4Runner with ZERO rubbing lock to lock fully stuffed on 37x14.5 Toyo MT's. Its all about placement of the axle, and how much you are willing to cut out. My front axle is 5 1/2" forward, and I have zero fender cutting.

Second, you need crossover steering. You cannot use the stock steering box, you will need an IFS box. Trail-gear, All-pro, WabFab, Sky's, Front Range Offroad ALL sell crossover steering kits complete with detailed instructions. Not to mention the numerous people on this site and others who have done it. You certainly aren't the first person with steering problems.

When you start going bigger tires, and taller lifts, you have to modify from stock. 7" Of lift is WAY too much, your truck will sit too high.

 

ya and histeer will not fit with a block under the axle, you could remove the ball from your drag link and weld in upside down or get a drop one. how bout some rears up front will move axle forward 3: and give a little lift too

Take blocks out and throw away.

3" is all you need for high cross over steering.

I have an 82 truck in my shop now with 5" lift, high steer on 35s with PLENTY of room.

the guy I got the truck from said that it had 4'' lift leaf springs. I see no shackle lift or body lift so its gotta be the leaf springs. with just the 4'' the tires rub a bit, not sure where. thats why I added the blocks but now i got more problems! so im just gunna have to look around under the truck more and look online for possible solutions. thanks for the help so far guys im learning a lot from yall already. ill be back with more ?s

37s will fit but to wheel it hard with them it will need some firewall tubbing.

I want the truck along with all his knowledge. Sharp truck for sure. I wish Wabfab were next door i would bribing him with whatever livations he enjoys just to hang around and learn.

 

If I had his knowledge, I wouldn't need the truck, I'd be able to build my own.

 

More than enough lift on even with 3" leaf springs to clear 35s easy! Those are 4"+ leaf springs, but they are also broken in already from another vehicle.

Toyotas are something that I enjoy. I'm just fortunate that I can make a little $$$ doing something I love. Anyone is welcome to stop by, but if they want to come by I tell them to come to work. Folks that come just to stand around and talk usually don't come back. Knowledge comes from effort. I make an effort to learn from folks MUCH smarter than me that love Toyotas and come by my shop on a regular basis
